"At Death's Door"
30"x48"; acrylic on handmade gallery wrapped canvas
This is a painting that started out as a very small photo montage. A montage is basically a collage of different photos. My father said something while I was trying to come up with an idea for my Montage painting and he said something that really made me want to paint a painting based on him and his health problems. So, the large monster on his head is suppose to be the thing that causes his health problems, the clock is for time, which we never knew how long he had left, the bullseye on the clock is suppose to refer to his heart attacks, which by the way, the day that we critiqued this in class is the day he found out he had yet another heart attack in the past month, and the icicles are representing the day that started it all. He slipped and fell on ice and broke is back in 89'.
I'm really proud how this one turned out. You can see how much it changed from the beginning: [link]
This is hopefully going in the Student Art Show at Delta College. I'll find out on Monday if it's hanging up along with 2 of my other submissions. Hopefully they all get in!
