Camouflage Self-portrait
16"x16": ink

What we had to do is make our face out of something. The thing is, this idea was so hard to come up with. When he gave us the assignment, I started to immediately sketch, but nothing seemed worthy. My first idea was going to be a unicorn for my hair, and I was going to do something with fairy tales. Then I drew out the Owl Butterfly for the eyes. I finally came up with this idea 2 nights before it was due. I finished 95% of this drawing the day before it was due, from about 3pm-11:30pm. Not because of procrastination, but because of lack of an idea. I showed him it all drawn out in pencil, with a tiny bit of ink, and before I handed it to him, I said "Please don't scold me for how little I have done" and he replied "No, because I know how much you're already scolding yourself." I worked my ass off, and got it suprisingly done quicker than I thought. :) I'm really happy with it. The whole idea is Camouflage, and how some insects can blend into nature. The Owl Butterfly are my eyes, the Leaf bug is my nose, and the tail end of the one of two praying mantis's is my smile. Then I have the walking stick to kind of frame off my face.

Very witty. I absolutely love this. It would be great to see this as a painting with some color...or even a tattoo perhaps. But this is absolutely lovely.
